Name: Jonathan Raphael
Children's names and ages:
I have three children, two boys and one girl.
Tcharline 12, Armstrong 8, and Jonathan Jr. 2 months.
Where are you from?:
I was born in Thomassique which is not too far from Hinche.
This is in the Central Plateau region. I left there to go to
secondary school. I lived in Hinche for three years for
school, then I went to Port au Prince to continue school. In
1995 I came to Cap Haitien, and it's here that I became a
member of the church of Christ. I also married in Cap
Haitien, and my family lives there now.
How has your time at the CBT helped you personally?
The three years I've spent at the CBT have helped me
know everyone in Christ is part of one big family. It allowed
me to live, eat, drink and play with brothers I did not know
before.
Has the CBT helped you in your ministry?
The school has helped me very much in my ministry. It has
helped me gain more knowledge of the Bible so that I can
preach the word of God. It has trained me and helped me
take my responsibilities as a preacher and shown be how to
lead God's people as a shepherd cares for his sheep.
What advice would you give to a new student?
I would advise them not to come to school unless they have
a calling to do so. School is not an easy thing. I say this
because Paul said it is necessary that we ought to preach
the gospel with a good heart and without any evil intentions
in our heads (1 Cor. 9:16,17).
What has been most difficult during your time at the CBT?
The most difficult thing for me was leaving my family, my
work and my friends and going to a new place. The
saddest times were when sometimes someone would call to
tell me that my wife or one of my children were sick. The
thing that gave me strength was that God never let things
totally fall apart.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I want to travel until I reach an area in
my country that does not yet know the truth, preach to
show them the truth and establish a church there. I know
this work is not easy, but with prayer, anything is possible.
During their final trimester of classes, we
asked each student some questions about
their experience at the CBT. This is Raphael's
response.
